Melco Supports the First Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour Enriches the summer of local youth

Macau, Monday, August 7, 2017 – Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited (NASDAQ: MLCO) (“Melco Resorts & Entertainment”, “Melco” or the “Company”), a developer, owner and operator of gaming and entertainment resort facilities, is committed to nurturing local talents. It has dedicated numerous efforts in facilitating the development of local youth over the past decade. Recently, the Company supported the first Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour (MEET), enabling interaction between local Macau students, and university students from Edinburgh as well as Cambodia. The three-week program concluded last Friday with a graduation ceremony held at Warner Bros. Fun Zone, Studio City. Ms. Vicky Leong, Acting Deputy Director of the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, attended the ceremony and gave a speech.

The Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour was organized by the 2017 MEET Organizing Committee and the Macau Youth League of the United Kingdom (MYLUK). It is supported by the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Tertiary Education Services Office, Cambodia Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, Institute for Tourism Studies, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, Macau Baptist College, Kwong Tai Middle School Macau, and Sino-Portuguese Vocational & Technical School. Local students from the three middle schools, guided by the university students from Edinburgh and Cambodia, worked in groups to complete interesting projects such as website development, human anatomy model, program code writing, and etc. In the process of creating these projects, local students put their various skills – organizational, communications and language – to use. At the graduation ceremony, two groups of students shared what they have learned from the program.

Ms. Vicky Leong said at the ceremony, “the Macau Government has always encouraged local youth to broaden their horizon and spend their long summer holiday wisely. Through the Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour, students were able to get in touch with new concepts, and to learn to cooperate with those from a completely different cultural background. We are very glad that Melco offered support in several aspects of this program, which contributed to its success.”

Mr. Chak Ip, Founder and Chairman of the Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour, said. “As recipients of Government scholarship, the organizing team members of MEET have always cherished the opportunity to study abroad. Our gratitude did not end as a mere feeling. Instead, we are motivated to give back to the society and share our experience with local youth. We feel that underprivileged youngsters are facing inequality in educational resources and lack of social mobility. The aim of MEET is to help equip them with the ability and horizon required to seek quality tertiary education opportunities. We would like to thank the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau, Tertiary Education Services Office, the Cambodia Ministry of Education, Institute for Tourism Studies, and Melco Resorts & Entertainment for their support that made this project possible.”

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President, Chief Officer of HR/CSR, said, “Nurturing local young people is one of our corporate social responsibility priorities. We have created unique and innovative programs for the youth of Macau. Our collaboration with MYLUK on the Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour has been very rewarding. The passion shown by the university students to contribute to their hometown was admirable, and it aligns with our philosophy of giving back to the community in which we operate. We are delighted to have been part of this meaningful program, and be able to see the growth of the local students.”

About the Macau Edinburgh Exchange Tour (MEET)

MEET is a non-profit initiative founded by a group of students studying at the University of Edinburgh, one of the top twenty universities in the world. MEET aims to tackle the inequality in educational resource in developed cities like Hong Kong and Macau by connecting young people from around the world and allowing them to learn from each other’s experience and ideas. We hope to provide local high school students in Macau who might not otherwise have the privilege to study abroad an opportunity to interact and collaborate with foreign mentors. Ultimately, we aim to increase the accessibility to quality tertiary education among local youth.
