Macau – July 22, 2015 – Onsite construction starts next week on Macau’s new landmark – a reproduction of Macau’s stunning new US$3.2 billion Hollywood-inspired entertainment destination resort, Studio City.
Unlike the real complex, this meticulous reconstruction, complete with Art-Deco exterior and iconic figure-8 Ferris wheel, has taken just two months to plan and develop – faithfully reproduced in LEGO.
Andy Hung, the first-ever Greater China LEGO Certified Professional, has been commissioned to build a LEGO minifigure-scale replica of Asia’s Entertainment Capital, in the world-famous brick and building system, at Studio City’s sister destination resort, City of Dreams.
The 2.15-meter high model, created from more than one million LEGO pieces, is his first Macau exhibition since being awarded LEGO Certified Professional status, and will give visitors a thrilling first glimpse of the awe-inspiring Studio City complex, with mini-model interpretations of the imposing 30-meter ‘Heroes of Steel’ and stunning Art-Deco façade.
The model exhibition is reflective of a world of firsts at Studio City. The thrilling entertainment resort is the subject of Macau’s first Hollywood production, starring Hollywood icons Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Martin Scorsese. It is also home to the world’s first ‘figure-8’ Ferris wheel, ‘Golden Reel’; the world’s first Batman film franchise digital ride, ‘Batman Dark Flight’; and Macau’s first ever permanent theater hosting a world-class permanent resident magic show, ‘The House of Magic’.
It faithfully reproduces the 1,600-room twin hotel towers, straddled by the Golden Reel, suspended at 130 meters and inspired by a movie sequence of two asteroids smashing through the building façade in tandem.
Andy spent much time working from building plans and artists’ impressions of the Studio City complex to design the model exhibition. It is the largest in his extensive and wide-ranging portfolio of creative projects that have delighted LEGO enthusiasts around the world.
“This is certainly one of the most complex, and indeed largest, LEGO design and build projects I have ever undertaken,” said Andy. “The fact that the Studio City building consists of a two-story platform, with two hotel towers, a Ferris wheel and a podium garden is challenging. We, together with the Macau production team, have to work from floor plans and artist’s renderings to plan and build this new landmark in Macau.”
Visitors can witness Andy and his team hard at work during the final build-out period, in the City of Dreams’ Main Portal, from July 29 until July 31, 2015.
“The Studio City “Brick by Brick” Model Exhibition is a fun way of showcasing the Art Deco façade and iconic exterior features that will set the complex apart from all other offerings in Cotai,” said Studio City Property President, Mr. JD Clayton.
“Visitors will get an opportunity to see for themselves a ‘mini’ sneak preview of the stunning sister complex at the other end of Cotai, which will be home to a wide range of unique entertainment experiences inspired by Hollywood-style glamor.”
Studio City will thrill Macau visitors with the largest offering of world-class entertainment experiences under one roof when it opens later this year.
The new integrated resort will deliver non-stop entertainment, including action-packed “flying theater” motion ride, Batman Dark Flight; a 40,000-square-foot family entertainment center, Warner Bros. Fun Zone, featuring world-renowned characters from Warner Bros.’ DC Comics, Hanna-Barbera Productions and Looney-Tunes entertainment franchises; an incredible live magical experience showcasing the world's greatest magicians, The House of Magic; Macau’s first-ever Ibiza-style nightclub, Pacha Macau; and a 5,000-seat multi-purpose entertainment center, Studio City Event Center, hosting exciting live concerts, theatrical and top sports offerings in addition to award shows and other special showcase events.
Electrifying entertainment will be combined with an exciting array of accommodation, regional and international dining experiences and designer-brand shopping in an ‘immersive’ retail entertainment environment at The Boulevard at Studio City.
The Studio City “Brick by Brick” Model Exhibition will run from August 1, 2015 throughout the summer as part of City of Dreams’ ‘Fantastic Summer’ campaign.
Visitors can get into the Studio City cinematic spirit with fun activities including a photo-hunt around its sister property, City of Dreams, to find special Studio City themed photo displays featuring stars of the short movie ’The Audition’ – Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, and director Martin Scorsese; ‘The House of Magic’; ‘Batman Dark Flight’ and ‘Warner Bros. Fun Zone’.
The Studio City “Brick by Brick” Model Exhibition is just part of the summer campaign at City of Dreams, with an exciting collection of special offers and activities for you, your family and your friends to enjoy: from dining promotions at signature restaurants and casual dining hot spots like SOHO and Wave pool bar to hotel packages and unique new experiences including ‘The House of Dancing Water Discovery Tour’ and workshops, all created to ensure that you will have a summer unlike any other.
Studio City is located on Cotai, Macau, close to the Lotus Bridge immigration point which connects with Hengqin Island and a future station-point for the Macau Light Rapid Transit. This Hollywood-themed studio-concept resort is set to become Asia’s Entertainment Capital.
